Everyone feels stressed at certain points in their lives. Whether it's because we have wayyy too much school work to do, are having some problems with friends or family, or maybe we are thinking about our futures and where we want to be in 10 years. It is very normal and quite common to feel this way when we start getting overwhelmed.
That is why I decided to give you guys a few stress relieving activities that involve engaging one or more of your senses to get your mind of things for a while.
Lets start with sight!
Read a good book -- personally this is my favourite thing to do!)
Watch your favourite movie -- or check out Ebony's blog post for some awesome movies to watch when you're not feeling your best!
Engage your visual senses in painting or photography -- this one is for those creative souls out there.
Allow yourself to daydream for 10 minutes
Use visualisation techniques to evoke good memories
Sit outside and enjoy the sounds -- you should try this one with your eyes closed, it's amazing how much you will be able to hear
Listen to your favourite song
Listen to a motivational video from youtube.
Play a relaxation CD
Listen to a radio program with your eyes closed
Exercise -- exercise releases good chemicals in your body that will have you feeling great in no time!
Squeeze a stress ball
Stroke a pet -- eg. dogs, cats, rabbits etc.
Wear soft warm clothing
Play a musical instrument
Get a massage
Do some yoga/pilates or meditate.
Have a chat with someone who will listen
Use deep breathing exercises -- you can find a breathing exercise on Bloom.com under "Mental Health and Chill."
Eat a piece of chocolate
Repeat affirmations out loud
And lastly, smell:
Burn some aromatherapy oils -- make sure you have an adult handle the matches!
Enjoy the aroma of scented candles -- make sure you have an adult handle the matches and never leave a flame unattended.
Enjoy outdoor smells by going on a walk in places that are surrounded by nature
Freshly brewed tea or coffee
Bake some cookies!
These are just a few of the things I like to do when I'm feeling stressed and need to get my mind off things.
