About us

It's kinda a crazy story, but Bloom actually started as group assignment for a uni class and now we are hoping to grow it into a movement created by young people for young people.

The shocking rates of depression, anxiety and suicide for young adults in Australia along with the stigma attached to mental illness for people our age really worried us. We felt a bit useless to begin with. Overwhelmed with the scale and serious nature of the issue, what could we do? We were just uni students trying to get our Arts degree and hopefully a cheeky HD in a class...

We were incredibly passionate about mental wellness and believed it incredibly important for every university student to be able to look after and nurture their mental wellbeing. So we decided to focus on early intervention and mental wellbeing. We realised that university is a key time in preparation for our life and if we can encourage good habits and techniques early on, it could help people with their daily life and long into their future.

Bloom's goal is to provide easy to use and #hip wellbeing tools for university students through online mediums.

We aim to rework, reword and reimagine Positive Psychology to give young people the tools to increase wellness rates for our demographic. No longer can we sit idle while our friends suffer in silence and the statistics continue to rise. It's time that we start focusing on our mental wellbeing and making this a priority.

We feel that lots of people our age never really learnt how to feel our emotions. That we grew up learning to think positive thoughts and that there are always people worse off than us, but this is actually really tricky and sometimes life is pretty brutal.  It can be filled with lots of emotions. Happiness, Stress, Sadness, Worry. We might feel Afraid, Lonely, Excited, Nervous, Inspired or a mixture of all of the above. Sometimes the world seems too big and us too small, or our town too small and we have outgrown where we are. Often we are surrounded by people but feel like we have no one to talk to. We can feel lost without a path to follow or an idea of the destination we are working so hard to reach. Sometimes the sun is shining and everything is going well, other times it feels like we are stuck in a storm.

We believe every person's mental health is important and we want to work with young people to help them be able to recognise their own feelings, seek help and create a community that is supportive of mental health and wellbeing. Bloom is for everyone.

We are not counsellors, psychologists or emergency responders. We can't heal people or diagnose mental illness. Please do reach out to services and in an emergency call 000. We are just university students that want to make wellbeing tools easy to access and to reduce stigma surrounding mental health.  No longer is talking about emotions confined to your journal and DNMs with besties over icecream, we are making talking about our feelings normal.

We want all young people to be able to bloom, will you joins us? (mic drop)
